Requirements
ATC is seeking a Regional Safety Coordinator for our South Region, serving approximately 25 Branches.  This position is in the Risk Management Department and reports to the Corporate Safety Manager.  The successful candidate will operate from our Atlanta area or possibly other South Region office.

 

The position is primarily responsible for providing expertise on all health and safety issues to the South Region in support of Branch Office Managers and all other staff, serving as a resource for implementing corporate safety initiatives, coordinating and conducting safety audits, providing oversight and assistance in incident investigations, and implementing proactive programs designed to reduce injuries and illnesses, and workers' compensation costs.


Candidates should possess: A minimum of 5 years safety and health related management experience with work history that includes environmental, engineering, and/or construction with strong analytical and technical skills; proven ability to work with all levels of management and hourly workforce; ability to drive change, innovation, and implementation of corrective actions; strong verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial hygiene methodology, and proven track record of adding value through safety and health programs.

 

Candidates must have a BS/BA in a health, safety, engineering, or environmental management curriculum and possess, or be working towards attaining, the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygiene (CIH) professional designations.

 Loss Prevention Specialist (5/30/08)

 ABM Industries Incorporated has an opening for a Loss Prevention Specialist. This is a FULL–TIME EXEMPT position.

 Location: Position will work out of the Northeast Regional Office in New York City.

 Job Summary Responsibilities:

 §         Continually conduct loss prevention (safety) inspections and job hazard assessments at work sites in Manhattan.

§         Continually conduct employee safety training on topics including but not limited to manual material handling, slip/fall prevention, personal protective equipment, etc.

§         Respond to injury, illness, and “near miss” incidents immediately. As necessary, conduct investigations and generate findings, including root cause analysis when appropriate.

§         Routinely communicate information to the regional risk manager for employee contact and follow-up.

§         Demonstrate ABM’s commitment to employee safety and loss prevention by continually meeting employees at their work sites and discussing ideas, concerns, etc.

 Hours: This position typically will work 3:00pm to 11:00pm

 Education/Training:

 §         A Bachelors degree in a relevant area (such as Safety Management, Human Resources Management, Biology, Kinesiology, Engineering or Toxicology) is required.

 Job Knowledge/Experience:

 §         2-5 years work experience desirable in (or closely affiliated with) Safety Management, Human Resources Management, or Training/Communications.

§         Project management experience is desirable. Ability to prioritize and function in an occasionally stressful, multi-task environment.

§         Customer-service oriented individual with excellent communication skills.

§         2 or more years experience in developing and publishing reports, articles, training materials, etc.

§         Ability to efficiently use the internet as a toll for conducting research and extracting safety – related information.

§         Expertise in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.

Position Summary:

Lead the North American Chemical Division in a “Zero accident Culture” through Basic Behavioral Safety and operational discipline.   This is a proactive role which requires excellent interpersonal skills as well as personal involvement in managing and expeditiously working all aspects of safety issues and leading/stimulating the necessary involvement of management and hourly employees.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for leading the site safety program to the goal of zero injuries.
  2. Publish all North American safety statistics and reporting requirements.
  3. Manage all safety training for the division through the use of the online data base. Track training performance and publish status to management.
  4. Participate in Global Chemicals Self Assessment Audit program.
  5. Publish the annual Right to Know filing with the state and local agencies in accordance with SARA Title III Tier II and Tier III regulations. 
  6. Conduct OSHA 24 Hour HAZWOPER Technician Level Certification and 8 Hour Refresher training.
  7. Develop and publish capital requests for Safety related equipment and facility modifications.
  8. Conduct all 1st Aid, CPR and AED Training for the division.
  9. Develop and maintain Environmental Health and Safety Policies and  Procedures to be complaint with current regulations and up to date with required revision cycle.
  10. Manage the site security personnel.
  11. Work with Corporate Safety personnel to implement new safety policies and procedures.
  12. Ensure compliance to all federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations including all 29 CFR regulations, process safety in accordance with TCPA/PSM/RMP, and DPCC/DCR.
  13. Lead all incident investigations and determine root cause and associated corrective actions.  Track all corrective actions to a timely conclusion.
  14. Coordinate and manage the monthly Safety Committee meetings.  Must track and close out all open items in a expeditious and timely fashion. 
  15. Conduct weekly workplace fire and safety audits in accordance with an established program and effectively track corrective actions.
  16. Support the management of the 5S initiatives in accordance with Practical Process Improvement and Lean initiatives.
  17. Lead a cross-functional team in conducting quarterly Job Hazard Analysis.
  18. Conduct emergency response drills.
  19. Responsible for all OSHA reporting including the OSHA 300 log
  20. Perform all quantitive respirator fit tests using the corporate Portacount machine and fit test training to all personnel as needed.
  21. Manage forklift training program ensuring all fork lift operators are properly trained and certified.
  22. Manage the medical evaluations of all emergency response personnel to be in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120. 
  23. Oversee all IH monitoring and ergonomics assessments.
  24. Other EH&S duties as required.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

1.       BS Degree in Safety or Engineering, 5 years related safety experience.

2.       Must be able to demonstrate safety leadership skills to promote safety throughout the organization and have the ability to actively manage numerous action lists appropriately prioritizing and bringing issues to closure.

3.       Certified 1st Aid, CPR and AED Instructor.

4.       40 Hour HAZWOPER Certified.

5.       Qualified to certify Fork Lift operators.

The graduate program of Ergonomics & Biomechanics at NYU Graduate School of Arts & Sciences offers two 4-credit ergonomic courses:

Ergo 1 - Physical issues in the workplace - Spring (January - May)

Ergo 2 - Environmental factors in the workplace - Fall (September - December).

We are urgently looking for an Industrial Hygienist at the MS or PhD level with some practical experience in ergonomics to take on the teaching of Ergo 2 in the coming Fall 2008 as adjunct faculty.   The course covers environmental and organizational influences in the workplace that are relevant to the development of musculoskeletal problems.  Emphasis is on recognizing and designing safe and productive work environments for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. The topics include sensory-motor processes, temperature, whole body and segmental vibration, noise, lighting, indoor air quality and organizational factors.

The course intends to enable students to appreciate environmental issues that affect ergonomic interventions in the workplace. (See attached for last year's syllabus.) We are looking for individuals with background in industrial hygiene to teach the course with or without guest speakers.

The workload entails about 45 hrs of class time (14-15 weekly sessions of 3 hrs). As adjunct faculty, the instructor has full access to NYU library services, including literature searches by librarians, in addition to on-line access to e-journals, inter-library loans, etc.
