September 2017 President’s Message
In the wake of natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey, it is a harsh reminder that there are forces at work in this world that are beyond our control. And yet amidst a tragedy like this, we have an opportunity to not only apply our humanitarian energies to help those in need, but also our professional skills, knowhow and experience. As industrial hygienists and EHS professionals we can help in a range of ways whether it’s through your company, professional association, faith or community based efforts, there are many things we can do to make a difference.
On a local section note, please welcome Doug Glorie of STV, Inc. as our new president-elect. Doug has already made significant efforts to organize our monthly meetings and has confirmed some excellent speakers. We are also working on another half day workshop for sometime after the first of the year to feature some hands-on IH related training for our membership. More details to come on this event. Also, please welcome Brian Feury of Langan Engineering as our new Director of Administration. Brian will be focusing on regulatory and legislative activities in Trenton and on a national level and will also be working with Candice Kowalewski, our Director of Member Services to accelerate and expand our student scholarship program and student engagement efforts.
Finally, as we do each year, our Past-President, Bernie Fontaine, is working to secure speakers for our PDC that is held in conjunction with the Northeast Industrial Hygiene Conference at PSEGs conference facilities in Edison, NJ on 11/30/17. Stay tuned for more details on this annual event.
On a personal note, I appreciate the opportunity to once again be part of a great group of professionals and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events. Should you have any ideas or suggestions for improving the programs and activities of the NJAIHA, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us on the executive board. What makes a great professional organization is your active engagement and participation, this is your association and we are here to serve you as best we can.
Best Regards,
Craig Doolittle
President NJAIHA
